Crater Lake National Park, OR

July 12, 2010 -After our experience at Stewart Mineral Springs, we finally head out of California and onto Oregon.  We arrive Mazama campground at Crater Lake National Park, 132 miles north of Weed, CA.  I still remember visiting Crater Lake when I was 5 years old, quite a sweet, fond memory as a child with my family.  This overnight stop with breathtaking views of the super caldera is a collapsed volcano formerly called Mt. Mazama, and now is present day Crater Lake.  Our unfortunate camp was riddled with thousands of mosquitoes, infesting the snow melt and waiting for a piece of our exposed skin.  We literally set up and took down camp fully clothed with our helmets and gloves on.  All we could do was just sit around in the tent as they swarmed it like bees.  We dared to take a hike when the day cooled, but we were not free of the bloodsuckers.  They were all over the Crater Lake hike, shortening the glorious views as we ran back to the bike.  Too bad this magnificent place was infested with mosquito swarms!

The deepest hue of blue ever.  This serene crater of a lake was spectacular.
A sunset Crater Lake hike.
Charlie quickly poses.  Even with the serenity of the shot, the wind was at it's strongest.
Trying to get Charlie to pose, I think I took 5 shots, with none of him standing still!  Thousands of mosquitoes eating us alive!
