Carlsbad Caverns, NM

April 16, 2010  We drove 40 miles north from our camp in the Guadalupe Mountains to Carlsbad Caverns, a former 400 mile long reef in an inland sea that began 250 million years ago.  The drive to the surface elevation at 4406 feet (cavern entrance) was breathtaking, with spectacular views of the canyon desert.  We took an elevator 750 feet into the cave an walked the 1 mile loop named the Big Room.  This cavern is enormous!  There were too many gorgeous formations of stalactites, stalagmites and column to see.
