Carrizozo, NM at the Valley of Fires

April 14, 2010 - We drove out of Santa Fe, ending on hwy 55's scenic route towards Carrizozo.  The 245 miles on winding road took us through the Cibola Forest, idyllic semi ghost towns and gave us views of thunderstorms coming from the southeast.  Our overnight camp spot was at the lava beds in the Valley of Fires State Park.  The terrain was beautiful with lava rock surrounding our camp plus views of the lightning storm coming from the Lincoln Natl' Forest.
