Zuni Indian Res & El Malpais National Monument, NM

April 9, 2010- Coming out of the Painted Desert & Petrified Forest, we worked our way to New Mexico, entering through the Zuni Indian Reservation & camping out at the Narrows of El Malpais National Monument.  We made a turquoise jewelry stop at the Zuni Res where we picked up some beautiful needle point turquoise & jet stone jewelry inlaid in silver.  My handmade jewelry are made by artisans, Rachel Tzuni & Angela Laahty, of the Zuni Indians.  We drove through gorgeous Zuni country with awesome mesa views and finally onto our night's pit stop and the El Malpais Monument.
Love the Zuni country with mesas littering the landscape.
A short break in Zuni country, with our beauty, Pearl.
Natural Arch at El Malpais.
Our camp spot.  Just a day use area at El Malpais, where it got too late & we were too tired to drive.  Not a legit camping site, as some obnoxious kids hiking there were quick to point out to us.  But we were done for the day and in the middle of the forest.  Another tentless camp night, where the weather hit a low of 22 in the morning!  Freezing but awesome.  Our 0 rated Wiggy's bags were super warm, I highly recommend them.
