June 26, 2010 - Driving only 55 miles from Fresno on the 180 east, we decided to camp once again in Kings Canyon National Park. We love Kings Canyon and have camped in this classic California forest many times before. It was a no-brainer for us to enjoy it once again before heading back to Sunset Beach. Our camp at Grant Grove was just right, covered in Sugar Pines, Sequoias, and other large pines shading the area. We took our longest hike yet on the trip, a 6 mile loop with quite a strenous elevation gain for me and Charlie's out of shape bodies (too much sitting on the bike for hours on end). Our scenery through the thick forest took us to a waterfall, stands of old growth Sequoias at Grant Grove and to the general store for well-deserved ice cream at the end of the long loop! It was a long, bright summer day and a cool night. Perfect before our drive to Visalia, to see one of my best gals and her family.
Super rad camper in the grounds.
Charlie poses for Sequoia size perspective.
sigh... still together after wanting to ring his neck everyday! (i orignally had 'every other day' but Charlie had me correct it and remove 'other'. haha.)
Tripod shot in front of our campfire.
Flaming a cone for good measure.
