291 miles from Big Spring to Austin, TX

April 18, 2010 -After our Motel 6 night at a truck stop & a horrible fast food lunch break at Big Spring (yellow tap water and regretful fried food), we took a much needed rest stop just outside of Big Spring on highway 87 going towards this day's destination: Austin. During our stop, we have a rather odd siting of 2 emus drinking water out of a microwave on the side of the road.  Weird!  On our way out of nasty oil country on the 87, we switch to the 71, heading east and finally loving our road trip view of Texas wildflowers taking over the land and large ranches off the highway.  Never have we seen wildflowers in full glory.  291 miles later, we were in Austin by evening.

Crazy emus

Off the 71 towards Austin, we enjoyed miles of wildflowers.
Green pastures that are rather yellow dusted with wildflowers.

  1. This beats reading a travel book. Exciting and sometimes crazy . . . I enjoyed the emus but absolutely loved the drive through the glorious wild flowers.
